This is a high profile bi-annual event aimed at installing new fellows of the Advertising Profession. It also recognizes notable individuals both public and private, who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Marketing Communications in Nigeria.
The event generates positive publicity for the Council and provides an opportunity to get to know and meet new people as well as renew old acquaintances in the Industry.
The public forum brings together advertising stakeholders, relevant people of diverse backgrounds, government bodies, and individuals whose responsibilities involve promotion of goods and services in Nigeria, to discuss or deliberate on emerging issues and proffer solutions to them.
The forum also provides the opportunity to enlighten participants on the provisions of the Nigerian Code of Advertising Practice. Previous Public Forum had as their themes ‘Advertising and Social Engineering’, ‘Digital Broadcasting and Advertising,’ ‘ Who is Killing Advertising’ and ‘Advertising in a Recession’.
The law establishing APCON empowers it to determine who are advertising practitioners and maintain a register of practitioners.
Pursuant to this provision APCON conducts inductions from time to time to admit/initiate qualified persons into the advertising profession.
New practitioners are first inducted as associates. With more years of practice and training the inductees get upgraded to full membership cadre.
The Council on Friday, May 8, 1992 inducted the first set of registered Advertising Practitioners in Nigeria. They include 10 fellows, 144 full members and 108 associate members.
