DIGITALISATION WILL SHAPE MEDIA BUSINESS - Kankarofi

Data will be the driving force of media operations in the impending digitization of the media space in Nigeria. This was the prediction of the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi while exchanging views with a delegation of the Electronic Media Contents Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) who paid a courtesy visit to this advertising regulatory body, at their Iganmu, Lagos Office, recently.

He called on his visitors to brace up for challenges of the new digital era where data and contents management would drive the electronic media process, stressing the importance of getting their deliverables right in order to remain relevant in the digital era.

Responding to the request of EMCOAN to be considered for a seat on the governing Council of APCON, Alhaji Kankarofi, outlined the pre-requisites for a seat on the Council. This he said included active advertising practice by the members - a sector aspiring for a seat must have a preponderance of registered advertising practitioners as members.

They must in addition be exposed to high level advertising education which will place them in a position to interact and share advertising knowledge at a high level with professional colleagues of other sectors.

The Registrar urged them to avail themselves of the Window of Opportunity offered by the Modified Executive Professional Examination Programme of APCON to qualify for registration by the Council.

In his remarks during the meeting, Chief Adeoye Roluga, frontline electronic media contents producer and spokesperson of the delegation highlighted some of the challenges being faced by practitioners in the sector. He made particular reference to apparent lack of standards for rating of programmes which tends to place members of EMCOAN on a disadvantaged position when negotiating business with media owners and footing the bill for contents production. He appealed for the intervention of APCON to redress these industry issues.

Chief Roluga seized the opportunity of the visit to introduce Mr. Paul Igwe as the President of EMCOAN as well as other members of the delegation.
